Noted Neurosurgeon K Satya Varaprasad assumed charge as Director of Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the new director told the media that development of VIMS on par with NIMS, Hyderabad was his priority.

Visakhapatnam: Noted Neurosurgeon K Satya Varaprasad assumed charge as Director of Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the new director told the media that development of VIMS on par with NIMS, Hyderabad was his priority.

He said the VIMS would be developed as a best super specialty hospital in AP by launching all the departments in the institute. As head of department of Neurology of King George Hospital, Varaprasad said that VIMS would be developed with a brand image for neurosurgeries in the future. The VIMS has been offering services in 16 departments with 250 beds capacity and hiring expert doctors’ services depends on the need, Varaprasad said.

Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Vice Chancellor CV Rao said the VIMS would become a top medical research centre in the future. Trauma care services would be introduced to reduce pressure on the KGH, he added. Stating the number of out-patients increased from 50 to 800 per day, he said Varaprasad was appointed to develop the VIMS as best hospital across Asia.
