Vijayawada: As part of the ‘Operation Muskan’, the city police conducted search operations in various parts of the city and rescued 49 street children, orphans and neglected kids at Vijayawada Railway Station, Pandit Nehru Bus station, busy commercial complexes and near cinema halls.

These children were brought to the office of the Commissioner of Police where Police Commissioner Gowtham Sawang, Joint Commissioner of Police BV Ramana Kumar, DCP Kranti Rana Tata spoke to the kids and enquired about their condition and background.

These children will be handed over to the NGOs for the protection under the supervision of the department of women and child welfare. The city police are conducting ‘Operation Musukan’ to rescue the little street children, who are neglected by parents, orphans and child labour working in bars, restaurants, hotels and other workplaces.

The city police rescued 44 children belonging to Vijayawada city, four children belonging to other parts of the state and five children from other states. Three children hail from Uttar Pradesh and one kid each from Rajasthan and Karnataka were rescued by the police.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Commissioner of Police BV Ramana Kumar said the police and the department of labour are conducting raids in bars, hotels, restaurants and other work places to identify the child labour and rescuing the children. He said these children are sent to the NGOs where they are taken care.

He said the police are meeting the parents of the missing children and explaining the importance of taking care of children. He said ‘Operation Muskan’ is conducted with a view to help the street children and orphans. He said seven children below the age of 10 years, 18 children in the age group of 10 to 14 and 24 children above 15 years were rescued on Wednesday.
