The 131st birth anniversary of the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who propounded the number theory, was celebrated with great fanfare at the Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University (JNTU-K) here on Friday. It is also celebrated as National Mathematics Day. 

Kakinada: The 131st birth anniversary of the renowned mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, who propounded the number theory, was celebrated with great fanfare at the Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University (JNTU-K) here on Friday. It is also celebrated as National Mathematics Day.

Speaking on the occasion, JNTU College of Engineering Principal Prasada Raju urged students to acquire command over the basic principles in mathematics to solve complicated problems. If there was no mathematics, there was no engineering too, he added.

In his speech, Prof Ravindranath said that mathematics formed the foundation or the basis for formulating any theory. He also said that Ramanujan’s number theory was highly useful in the field of cloud computing, cryptology, cyber security and e-commerce. He also said that the future is only for mathematics. Professor Dr.Dikshitulu explained the greatness of Ramanujan and his mathematical theorems.
