Ongole: Prakasam district mobile court imprisoned 10 persons and imposed a fine on 53 on Wednesday for drunken driving and violation of Motor Vehicles Act.The Ongole traffic police, including SIs D Ranganath, K Hanumantha Rao and other constables, arrested 53 for drunken driving and violation of road safety rules, Motor Vehicles Act and produced them before the mobile court.

The judge imposed a fine of Rs 2,100 on each. The court also sent three persons for three days, four persons for four days and three persons for seven days for jail as the metre readings shown that they consumed alcohol more than 100 per cent of the permitted level. The Ongole traffic police offered counselling to the remaining people involved in the drunken driving at the traffic police station.

The officers explained them about the value of life, reasons for road accidents and the loss to the victims involved in them and their family members. They also made the people understand the importance of following traffic rules and the impact of violation on them and the fellow commuters on road using multimedia tools. They made the people take an oath for not involving in drunken driving again, before leaving from the counselling session.
