Vizianagaram: The Central and State governments should protect the interests of farmers, demanded All India Kisan Committee. The committee organised a round-table meeting here on Friday under the chairmanship of Vadde Sobhanadriswara Rao.

The committee stated that the governments are announcing sops and incentives for industrialists in every budget, but no government is looking after the welfare of farmers.

The minimum support price should be 50 per cent higher than the production cost of each crop and loans should be given liberally to protect the farmers from the clutches of private money lenders.

“The government banks are waiving thousands of crores of loans belonging to industrialists, but no farmer is exempted from re- paying their loans. This is unfair, we should save the farmers.

Land Acquisition Act-2013 should be implemented by protecting the farmers’ interests and compensation, rehabilitation also should be provided without any lapses. We would stage a dharna in front of Parliament in the ensuing Parliament session to raise our voices”, the committee stated. Rongali Pothanna and others participated in the programme.
