Tirupati: The valedictory function of two-day workshop on “Conservation of Wildlife and Ecotourism in India” organised by Department of Sericulture of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) was held at SV Zoological Park here on Wednesday.

About 250 members took part in the function. Speaking on the occasion, the convener of the workshop and Head, Department of Sericulture Prof D Bharathi explained about animal behaviour and special measures to be followed to conserve the wildlife in zoo. She stressed the need of eliciting public support for conservation of wildlife and wild habitants through conservation awareness programmes and ecotourism.

SV Zoological Park Curator Y Srinvasa Reddy stressed the importance of conserving wild life and detailed the activities of zoo park. Zoo Park’s Veterinary Assistant Surgeon Dr TH Thoiba Singh delivered a lecture on captive management of wild animals in zoo.

The importance of rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals was discussed by the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon of Zoo Dr SP Arun whereas Assistant Conservator of Forests Selva Kumar focused his lecture on ‘Observation of Animals and Birds in SV Zoo’.

On this occasion, the participants visited Lion Safari. Faculty members of Department of Sericulture Prof G Savithri, Dr GVL Durga Devi, Dr A Suvarnalatha Devi, Dr P Lakshmi Padmavathi, Dr A Shobha Rani and Dr B Hemavathi were present.
