Visakhapatnam: The Chair Professor, MHRD, IPR Chair, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, Prof T Ramakrishna, highlighted the divergent facets, including copy right protection in the era of digitalisation and trade mark protection under the aegis of Madrid protocol.

The professor explained the intricacies involved in grant of life form patents and quoted land mark judgments of the USA and EU on the subject. Intellectual Property (IP) Rights Laws, The Society for Law and Technology (SOLT) of Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University on Friday organised a national conference on model assembly of member parties at its campus.

The objective of this programme is to discuss, deliberate and debate the contemporary areas of IP like non-conventional trademarks, life form patents, internet of things, patenting of traditional knowledge and copy rights in social media.

Delivering the key note address at the conference, Ramakrishna explained the issues related to the copy rights by social media, including Twitter and Facebook accounts. He explained about the business method patents, nano technology and bio-technology patents and highlighted enforcement issues relating to circumvention of copy rights.

Over 15 teams from reputed law schools presented their perspective on legal issues related to creation, protection and enforcement of trade marks at national and international level. The Dean Bennet University, New Delhi, VC Vivekanandan, Ashok Ram Kumar, Partner Wordict IP Hyderabad, while participating in the technical sessions discussed about the copy right issues pertaining to digital media.

The In-charge Vice-Chancellor, DSNLU, V Kesava Rao, and the Associate Professor, DSNLU, P Sree Sudha, Dayananda Murthy CP, Registrar, DSNLU, Dean Academic Affairs and Research P Sri Devi also spoke.
