It was a day to recognise the best amongst the best and celebrate the operational achievements of the Eastern Fleet during the past one year, the fleet award function-2018 was held on Friday at Eastern Naval Command.
Visakhapatnam: It was a day to recognise the best amongst the best and celebrate the operational achievements of the Eastern Fleet during the past one year, the fleet award function-2018 was held on Friday at Eastern Naval Command.
1. The event is organised to recognise the valuable contribution and excellence of individual ships and the proud men in white, who kept a constant vigil in the farthest corners of distant oceans and in the waters close home

3. In all, 16 trophies, acknowledging outstanding performance over the varied dimensions of maritime operations leading to their combat efficiency were awarded to various ships
The annual function recognises the accomplishment of the ‘Sword Arm’ of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) over the past one year. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ENC, Vice-Admiral Karambir Singh was the chief guest at the event, hosted by Rear Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. The event was organised to recognise the valuable contribution and excellence of individual ships and the proud men in white, who kept a constant vigil in the farthest corners of distant oceans and in the waters close home.
During the event, the fleet operations officer presented the annual report of activities and achievements of the fleet, over the past year. A total of 16 trophies, acknowledging outstanding performance over the varied dimensions of maritime operations leading to their combat efficiency were awarded to various ships. INS Sumedha was adjudged as the ‘Most Spirited Ship’, INS Kirpan, was awarded the ‘Best Ship’ among corvettes and others. The ‘Best Ship’ trophy for capital ships was bagged by INS Sahyadri. The event also showcased an enthralling entertainment programme by in-house talent of the Eastern Fleet.
The year gone by was marked with a high tempo of operations, exercises and prolonged deployments of eastern fleet ships with footprint ranging in the far regions of the Indian Ocean, Central Pacific and Australia. The Eastern Fleet participated in several major multi-lateral exercises such as MALABAR-17 with the US and Japanese Navies and conducted Milan Exercise at Sea (MILES-18) with ships from nine nations exercising at sea. The fleet also undertook bilateral exercises like SIMBEX-17 and INDRA-17 with friendly foreign navies from across the globe.
