Nellore: Agriculture minister S Chandramohan Reddy said that the state government would shortly close Community Joint Farming Societies (CJFS) and distribute D-form pattas on the lands to the legal heirs of the farmers belonging to SC/ST communities who have been cultivating them for some time.

Interacting with the media at NTR Bhavan here on Monday, Chandramohan Reddy said that the Cabinet had taken a historical decision on the request of the Nellore district collector to close down the societies meant for joint farming.

The government would include names of the beneficiaries in 1-B records and distribute the pattas to them, he added. He also informed that there was 95,000 acre land under the scheme that was being cultivated by around 65,000 families belonging to SC/ST communities in the district. Around 2.60 lakh SC/ST farmers would be benefitted by the government decision.

“SC, ST farmers can not directly obtain crop loans from the banks because of the Pattadar (Title holder) is revenue divisional officer of the area even though they possess land.. There are also difficulties in sanctioning input subsidies. Now, with the decision of the government, these poor farmers would get crop loans and input subsidies directly without any barriers,” said the minister.

He also informed that they had discussed the issue with the Principal Secretary of revenue department and groundwork had been completed for circulating the GO dissolving the Joint Farming Societies.

Further, the agriculture minister said that they had supplied 22 tmc ft of Krishna water to the district and the state government had been providing good MSP (minimum support price) to the farmers. He said that they had purchased 1.74 lakh tonne paddy in the district through the paddy procurement centres.

He said demonetisation and implementation of GST had severely affected the farmers. “The Central government has been purchasing 90 per cent of crops at MSP in BJP-ruled states. But, they are not purchasing even 40 per cent in the states where BJP is not ruling.

Farmers are facing severe troubles with demonetisation and the GST in the state. Opposition party in the state has in fact to question the Central government on these issues of farmers, but it is ignoring them,” said the minister.

Somireddy also said that they had been enumerating the crop losses due to untimely rains this month. The loss due to rains and gales in March and April has been estimated at Rs 102 crore,” he added. TDP MLC B Ravichandra, NUDA chairman K Srinivasulu Reddy, NDCC chairman M.Dhanunjay Reddy and others were present.
