Vijayawada: The Patamata police arrested a five-member gang for allegedly trying to grab 366 square yards of land valued at Rs 4 crore in Gurunanak colony. The gang created fake documents to grab the land and caught by the police as the land owners suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with Patamata police.

Producing the gang before the media at the Traffic police main office on MG Road on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal said the gang had tried to grab the land belongs to Chalasani Nageswara Rao and his wife Srilakshmi.

The accused are identified as Kukati Joseph Stanley of Madhura Nagar, Kambgalla Raju of Ajit Singh Nagar, Karampudi Srinivasa Rao of Vijay Nagar colony, Mukkamala Raja Chand alias Rajesh of Veterinary colony, all from Vijayawada and Manchineella Gopala Krishna of Guntur.

The gang had created a forged document in the name of K Sowbhagyam and later tried to register the land in the name of her daughter Sandhyarani by general power of attorney.

The DCP said the police are investigating whether the gang had taken the help of some document writers and staff of sub-registrar office in Gannavaram for creating fake documents and in registering the property in the name of Sowbhagyam, who is known to one of the gang members.

The gang erected some poles to arrange a makeshift tent with a view to sell the land to others.In the meantime, the land owners Chalasani Nageswara Rao lodged a complaint with Patamata police about the efforts of gang to grab the land. The police registered a case and nabbed the five-member gang with forged documents.
