Woman attempts suicide at grievances cell

Guntur: Anguished over delay in issuing of pattadar passbook by officials, a woman poured petrol on herself and attempted suicide while joint collector Md Imtiaz Ahmed was receiving petitions at grievances cell at ZP meeting hall here on Monday.

The police at the spot foiled her bid. Mandalapu Leela Rani later told the media that she owns 1.4 acre land at Achyyapalem in Rompicherla mandal in the district. According to her, some of her relatives had been bringing pressure on revenue officials from issuing her the pattadar passbook in an attempt to grab her land.

“I have been making rounds to tahsildar office for the last six months to get the passbook but to no avail,” she lamented. Leela Rani said she met the higher officials and explained her problem but there had been no response.

“I have not been able to obtain any loans or subsidies from banks as I have no pattadar passbook. I am unable to maintain my family. I have no other option but suicide,” he said. Speaking to The Hans India, joint collector Md.Imtiaz Ahmed said, “I have directed the revenue officials to verify records. If injustice done to her, we will rectify it. At present, this dispute is in the court.”
