Nellore: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) national president Dr K Hemalatha announced that the CITUwill organise a massive rally and protest in front of the Parliament on September 5 against anti-labour policies of Union government and corporate firms in the country.
Addressing the third State-level LIC Working Women Convention of AP and Telangana held at Dr Jetty SeshareddyVignanaKendram in the city on Saturday, Dr Hemalatha alleged that 93 per cent of women working in the unorganised sector have no job security andproper income. Managements of corporate firms in the country have been trying to change their labour policies frequently affecting the livelihood of many poor, she added.
She asked how many women in the country are availing maternity benefits in private companiesand said majority corporate firms are not showing any interest to recruit women as they are not ready to provide such benefits to them.
She also lamented that the percentage of working women in the country has been gradually decreasing and those women working in agriculture sector were losing their livelihood due to mechanisation. Hemalatha also said that women who are migrating to urban areas forced to work in unorganised sector without any job security.The CITU chief said there were 10 lakh teacher posts lying vacant across the country in primary and high schools.
“Even though the state governments have been trying to showcase index of Ease of Doing Business, they had failed to provide any employment in private firms. Encouraging mechanisation has been affecting poor. Many private employees working in local shops have lost their employment due to advent of corporate chain stores in the country,” said Hemalatha.
She said the country was having abundant natural and human resources and the rulers have failed to utilise them properly. SCZIEF president K VenuGopal Rao, general secretary Clement Das, M Kameshwari and N Aruna Kumari were present.
