Ongole: The shutdown call given by the YSRCP, demanding Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, evoked poor response in Prakasam district. The authorities imposed Section 144 since early morning and the police put the YSRCP leaders in house arrest or took them into custody.

The bundh started with the blocking the way of APSRTC buses at the Ongole, Chirala, Yerragondapalem and other depots. Later, the police arrested the leaders and party workers for causing obstruction to the buses.

The YSRCP district president, Balineni Srinivas was put under house arrest as soon as he reached Ongole by Simhapuri Express in the morning. The party workers tried to organise rallies and various programmes at various places, asking the public to cooperate for the bandh call given by the YSRCP president YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

But the police arrested them in a few minutes. The police took the Ongole town president S Venkatarao into custody in the morning while they arrested the Santhanutalapadu MLA Adimulapu Suresh in Yerragondapalem as he led a rally, demanding SCS to the state.

The Markapuram MLA, Janke Venkata Reddy, Chirala YSRCP in-charge Yadam Balaji, Kandukur in-charge Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy former in-charge Tumati Madhavarao, Santhanutalapadu in-charge TJR Sudhakar Babu, Kanigiri in-charge Burra Madhusudan were also arrested by the police, to keep the businesses open and see that normal public life not affected.
