Visakhapatnam: The driver of the battery-operated car, who met with an accident, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital here on Sunday. The driver hit an iron pole near the bus stop at Kailashgiri on Saturday evening. A 37-year-old woman tourist died and with the death of the driver the toll went to two while the condition of the injured is said to be critical.

According to sources, the battery-operated car driver N Appala Raju suffered injuries on his left leg. Immediately, police shifted the injured, along with the driver, to a hospital, where K Rajya Lakshmi (37) died due to severe head injury while undergoing treatment.

ACP (Traffic) K Prabhakar said that the remaining five persons suffered minor injuries while driver legs were broken and died here on Sunday. As per the new norms, there is no need to obtain permission from police and RTA officials for operating the battery cars, he added.
