Vijayawada: The integrity of the backward classes to safeguard their rights was the only tribute to Sardar Gowthu Lacchanna, said CPI leader Veeranki Gopala Rao here on Thursday.
He addressed a gathering at Gowthu Lacchanna’s birth anniversary celebrations and said Lachhanna was the inspirer of several communists and socialists as Lacchanna fought with the rulers and fought for the toddy tappers.
Gopala Rao also recalled that Lacchanna had stood for the poor in the Parliament and Assembly till the end of his life, he added.
Followers of Gowthu Lachhanna celebrated his birth anniversary and garlanded his statue at NSM Public School, Patamata.
Veeranki Nageswara Rao, Gouda community leader, Veeranki Dange Kumari, corporator, Chittibomma KoteswaraRao, former corporator, Chintha Rajeswara Rao, M Radha Krishna, Sudhakar Rao, Avindra Nath and others participated.
