Vizianagaram: After the assassination of two TDP leaders in Vizag Agency, the police in the district sounded alert and beefed up the security. All the VIPs belonging to the Agency areas were cautioned. Recently, Maoists assassinated MLA K Sarveswara Rao of Araku Assembly constituency and former MLA K Soma.
The incident sent shockwaves as it was assumed that there is no presence of Maoists. But by killing the MLA and former MLA, they made their presence felt on Andhra-Odisha border. With the incident, police tightened the security to the MLAs and other TDP leaders in the Agency areas. Police advised Kurupam MLA P Pushpa Srivani and Salur MLA P Rajannadora not to venture into remote areas without prior intimation.
Meanwhile, police intensified the vehicle checking and additional forces were deployed for combing operations in GL Puram and Kurupam mandals. Police questioning the unidentified persons and checking the vehicles. District Superintendent of Police G Palaraju said: “We intensified the combing and we won't allow any anti-social elements into our jurisdiction. We are alert and protecting our leaders and public properties too”.
