Vijayawada: P Ranjit Basha, Director of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department, in a statement here on Wednesday, said that the salaries of assistants working in the mandal computer centres attached to MGNREGA will be hiked from Rs 3,000 to Rs. 6,000 with immediate effect.

The Director said that these assistants have been appointed long back and their plight was taken to the notice of Chief Minister by people’s representatives and he responded to it positively.

Minister for Panchayat Raj and IT Nara Lokesh took the decision to enhance the salaries of the assistants who have been helping the mandal computer centres. He signed the file on October 2. The director said that 661 assistants of all the mandal computer centres would be benefitted.

The government needs to spend an additional amount of Rs 2.38 crore per annum for paying the salaries, he said. He recalled that 481 outsourcing employees of MGNREGA and Watershed programmes were converted into fixed tenure employees.
