Kurnool: Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh said on Wednesday that the government is committed for the welfare of Valmiki community while participating in the state-level Maharishi Valmiki birth anniversary celebrations at Sunaina Auditorium here.

The MP stated the government wants to include members of the Valmiki community in Schedule Tribe (ST) category without rendering injustice to other communities in the same group. MLC KE Prabhakar gave a call to Valmikis to make use of welfare schemes being implemented by the state government.

District Collector S Satyanarayana expressed happiness over participating in the birth anniversary celebrations of the Maharishi Valmiki. AP Valmiki/Boya Cooperative Federation Managing Director B Nagabhushanam said that the government will develop Valmiki caves near Peapully will be developed at a cost of Rs 50 crore. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetti also spoke. KUDA Chairman Somisetty Venkateswarlu and district-level officials were present.

Valmiki Jayanti celebrated
Anantapur: Ministers Kalva Srinivas and Paritala Sunitha have called upon people to promote the values pursued by Maharishi Valmiki, who gave the world a classic called ‘Ramayana’. Participating in the Maharishi Valmiki birth anniversary celebrations organised by the BC Welfare Corporation at the Saptagiri Circle here on Wednesday, Kalva Srinivas said Valmiki had moulded Ramayana as an epic of par excellence.

Being born in a community of hunters, he emerged as a role model to the women folk. The Valmiki youth should draw inspiration from the saint and give top priority for education, he added. The Minister appealed to the ST community to welcome into its fold the Valmiki community with love and compassion and offer space to the beleaguered community.

He regretted the decline in family values and the quest of people for materialism over spiritual values. He called upon the people to popularise the writings of Valmiki and arrange for translation of his writings into Telugu language.

Paritala Sunitha said that the Valmiki Jayanti was being celebrated as a state festival for over 3 years. She assured that the government would always stand by the BC communities. She also announced a donation of Rs 5 lakh for the installation of Valmiki bronze statue in the city.

Local MLA V Prabhakar Choudhury in his presidential address hailed the role of Valmiki in unifying the country. Mayor Swaroopa, RDO Malola and BC Corporation Executive Director Nagabhushanam were among those who were present.
