Visakhapatnam: The Zilla Parishad unanimously passed a resolution and urged the government to announce Visakhapatnam as a drought-hit district.
The general body meeting of the Zilla Parishad was held on Saturday under Chairperson L Bhavani. The members in the meeting raised their voices on the less rainfall in the district and expressed their concern over the withering of crops.
Pendurty MLA Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy and Anakapalle MLA P Govinda Satyanarayana informed to the chair about the crop losses and they proposed to announce Visakhapatnam as a drought-hit district.
Responding to the members, Joint Collector G Srujana informed that a detailed report would be sent immediately to the government in this regard.
The members also raised their voice alleging that the development works have been stopped in villages after the administration shifted into the hands of special officers.
The officials are not paying the bills to contractors in time, resulting the contractors are not coming forward to take up the works.
Surprisingly, the MLAs from the ruling party including P Govinda Satyanarayana, P Ramesh Babu, V Anitha and others pointed out the chair on various issues and delay in completing the works.
