State will intensify security in border areas, says CS

To prevent movement of Maoists and ensuring smooth conduct of polls in the neighouring State

Amaravati: The State government will intensify the security along the border with Chhattisgarh, as directed by the Election Commission of India, in the wake of the elections to be held in that State.

The CEC of India, Om Prakash Rawat, along with two Commissioners including Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa held a video-conference on Monday with the Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police, Chief Electoral Officers and other officers of the 5 poll-bound States and their neighbouring States, from New Delhi.

During the conference, AP Chief Secretary Anil Chandra Punetha informed with the Election Commission that since the Maoists are active on the border areas, the State government will increase the security to ensure smooth conduct of elections in Chhattisgarh.

The Election Commission of India mainly focused on the security aspects in the poll-bound States and their neighbouring States, during this video conference.

Puneta said that the State government will provide sufficient bandobast to prevent any law and order disturbances on AP-Chhattisgarh border areas.
He further explained that special check-posts will be opened at the sensitive areas to prevent the movement of Naxals, illegal transportation of money and liquor.

AP DGP RP Thakur explained that the Sukuma district of Chhattisgarh has the border with AP at Kunta police station limits. He said that this point was identified as Naxal affected area.

To prevent unforeseen incidents, additional police personnel will be deployed, he explained.

The DGP informed that both AP and Chhattisgarh police higher officials already held meetings and drew a working strategy on it.

In this conference, AP Chief Electoral Officer RP Sisodia and other officials participated.
