Hyderabad: The Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice T B Radhakrishnan and Justice S V Bhatt on Thursday heard a Public Interest Litigation filed by the parents of Ayesha Meera and handed over the probe into Ayesha’s murder to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

In 2007, Ayesha was found murdered in her Ibrahminpatnam hostel near Vijayawada. One accused named P Satyam Babu was initially charged with murdering Ayesha and the trial court convicted him with life punishment. However, the High Court overturned it and constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the matter.

The bench after hearing the parties to the petition at length has arrived at a conclusion that the matter must be probed by an efficient central institution and therefore handed over the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The bench has also directed the CBI to lodge two First Information Reports: One for the deliberate destruction of material and records and the other for the probe into the murder of Ayesha Meera. The High Court has also expressed displeasure over its own officers and the lower court judges for not conducting the trial properly.
