Kondepi: Tension prevailed at the Kondepi YSR Congress Party office as the assembly constituency former in-charge Varikuti Ashok Babu locked himself in a room, preventing his arrest by the police and shifting to the hospital.

Ashok Babu is the in-charge for Kondepi until the party decided to appoint Dr Madasi Venkaiah. He contested the decision of party and spoke out his heart that he spent crores of rupees for the party, but it is not respecting him.

As the tussle between Ashok and Venkaiah became public, the party central office suspended Ashok on Monday night. On Tuesday, Venkaiah decided to open the party office and invited party leaders like Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, YV Subbareddy and others for the programme. But by the time, Ashok Babu reached the party office and announced a hunger strike until the party explains him the reason behind his suspension.

Ashok Babu’s brother and Bapatla MP candidate for 2014 general elections, Amruthapani met party leader Vijaya Sai Reddy in Ongole on Wednesday and discussed the issue with the party. He complained that he and his brother undertook various programmes and strengthened the party in the last few years, but they were backstabbed at the moments before elections.

However, Vijaya Sai Reddy assured Amruthapani that party in-charge may not necessarily the candidate for the elections and a lot more time to decide who to contest at what constituency. As the body sugars and blood pressure were announced to be in critical range, the police tried to shift Ashok Babu from the YSRCP office in Kondepi to a hospital for treatment.
