Vijayawada: The All India Insurance Employees’ Association (AIIEA) has decided to join in two-day nationwide strike to be held on January 8 and 9. It is expected that nearly 15 crore employees and workers across the country will participate in strike.

The Insurance Corporation Employees’ Union (ICEU), Machilipatnam Division held a convention in which B S Ravi, treasurer of the All India Insurance Employees’ Association, delivered a keynote address on the convention. Ravi said that the demands projected in the strike are relevant to all sections of the working class including the insurance employees.

He said that during the last four years of NDA regime, it has divested nearly Rs 2.09 lakh crore worth of equity in Public Sector Undertakings. He said that the Prime Minister’s assertion that nationalisation of the banking industry was a fraud which clearly demonstrates the contempt of the government towards public sector which has unarguably played the most important role in nation building.
