Kakinada: High alert has been declared in coastal areas in East Godavari district in view of Phethai cyclone, said District Collector Kartikeya Misra. Addressing the media at Coringa bird sanctuary in Tallarevumandal on Saturday, the Collector said that special officers have been appointed for all 14 coastal mandals in the district to initiate immediate relief measures.

Evacuation of people from low lying areas will be taken up based on the intensity of the situation, the Collector said.Necessary arrangements were made to operate 110 cyclone relief centres and to clear the roads for the movement of emergency vehicles in coastal villages in case of falling of trees on roads due to gales. Holidays will be declared for schools in coastal areas on Monday and Tuesday based on the situation the Collector said.

Arrangements have been made for supply of protected drinking water by using generators. In addition, EPDCL was asked to provide electrical polls for use in case of emergency. District administration geared up for attending the situation on war footing, Kartikeya Misraassured, With regard to fishermen who ventured in to sea for fishing, Collector said that 22 deep sea trawlers are yet to reach the shore. The Coast Guard was asked to take necessary steps for the return of these trawlers safely. Support of NDRF teams and SDRF will be taken depending on the situation, the Collector added.
