Vijayawada: The city has borne its share of the brunt of cyclone Phethai with several roads submerged.

There was overnight continuous rainfall in the city resulting in overflowing of drains in various parts of the city besides water logging at various low-lying areas causing inconvenience to the residents.

It was a tough time for people heading to offices in the morning hours. Most of the commuters have to navigate through the waterlogged roads and motorists have to drench for a long time in many areas.

VMC commissioner J Nivas on Monday, swung into action and ordered the officials concerned to see that logged water be diverted into side canals and clear the debris and garbage for the free flow of the rain water.

He visited Mother Theresa junction, Pinnamaneni polyclinic road, Kristuraju puram, Myneni junction, Nirmala convent road, APIIC colony, Benz circle, Ramavarappadu ring, Prasadampadu national highway road and inspected the water logged areas and suggested the officials and workers to clear the rain water by diverting the water to side drains.

He ordered the workers to take all measures to clear rain water and free flow of rain water in side drains.
