Survey underway for assigning Digital Door Numbers

Nellore: The Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) is assigning Digital Door Numbers (DDNs) that are having multiple uses of city population. The system is aimed at streamlining tax payments by avoiding loopholes in tax collection and for hassle-free information about location of the residents.
For best use of the state-of-the-art technology, the civic administration had evolved an action plan for issuing the numbers. There are 54 divisions in the Corporation limits that have been further divided into 28 revenue zones. Nellore is growing Tier-2 city surrounded by industries, economic zones, thermal plants and many other manufacturing units emerging here.
The city is having around 1.35 lakh households in all 54 divisions in the Corporation limits and officials have begun survey allocating DDNs to the houses.
The survey teams are collecting details like name of the house owner, Aadhaar number, electricity connection details, phone number, house tax number, water connection number, details of house/building plan, BPS plan number, TIN number in case of commercial organisations and licence details.
An NMC official said that an integrated survey would be helpful in collecting detailed information about the city and also for introducing various development works.
“We have divided 54 divisions into 28 revenue zones and the staff members are collecting details and 40 per cent of the survey has been completed. We would soon provide digital door numbers after completing the survey,” said a Revenue Inspector of the NMC.
He further said that the Corporation is planning to create a GIS-based map where numbering system allows geo-location and navigation services. Meanwhile, residents of the city have been eagerly waiting for digital door numbers that enable multiple services.
As part of the procedure, officials are visiting the residence and assigning a digital door number on an official sticker. Then, people have to activate the number filling an official form for getting a link to share the digital address. They, hereafter, need not explain entire address of the house and simply they can tell the number which is sufficient for all purposes.
