VIJAYAWADA: The effects and aftermath of rape can include both physical trauma and psychological trauma. Recently a gang of four sexually targeting a women every 10 days, the West Godavari police are planning to refer the accused for a thorough psychological evaluation.

The rapist gang members, now in judicial custody, raped 32 Women and murdered four people including a women in the last 14 months. This is the first time that the police in Andhra Pradesh have come across such a gang that targets only young couples.

Only seven cases have been registered so far, many cases against the gang were not filed and it made them take a way for such gruesome activity. The police are verifying other incidents too to nail them. West Godavari police, who took up investigation of a rape and murder case of a degree student at Kamavarapukota, arrested the accuse. During the interrogation, the gang members admitted to raping 32 women.

The gang's operating strategy is simple. They identify a young couple in a isolated spot and attack the male member. Later they sexually abuse the woman and escape with cash and jewellery. In one of the incidents they killed a woman. Other times, they also murdered three men during the attacks on couples in Krishna and West Godavari districts.The gang members hunt for lovers, mostly teenagers. said an official involved in the investigation.

While the West Godavari police arrested four persons involved in the rape and murder case, two other members of the gang, who committed similar offenses, are Scot free.

The gang committed 32 offenses starting from December 2017 till February 2019 in a span of 14 months.
