Sajjanar to face criminal case in housing society scandal
In the wake of Cyberabad police commissioner V C Sajjanars comments directed against the AP government in the alleged data theft case, the state government is mulling dig up cases of irregularities involving the IAS officer
Amaravati: In the wake of Cyberabad police commissioner V C Sajjanar’s comments directed against the AP government in the alleged data theft case, the state government is mulling dig up cases of irregularities involving the IAS officer. He was allegedly involved in a scandal worth Rs 1.02 crore in Devuni Kadapa Police Employees Mutually Aided Co-Operative House Building Society.
The society members alleged that they had given the money to Sajjanar, the then SP of Kadapa for purchasing land for houses for 1,129 police officials who were members. Each one paid Rs 550 as membership fee.
The committee in 2004 collected Rs 20,000 each from 483 members for purchase of land. The committee was headed by 19 senior officials, in which Sajjanar was chief promoter.
After collecting the money, the society members have deposited in the account of SP VC Sajjanar IPS at Rayalaseema Grameena Bank. But, by the time Sajjanar’s tenure was completed in Kadapa district, the government had not allotted land to the society.
At this juncture, one of the member of the society, AR Police Constable A Balaji lodged a complaint where he alleged that the amount was withdrawn from the account without the knowledge of the members.
He requested the AP Director General of Police to inquire into the matter and do justice to the members. Now, the state government is contemplating to probe the matter. A minister in Chandrababu Naidu’s Cabinet said that they had been mulling legal action against Sajjanar for his alleged involvement in the housing scandal.
Reacting on the allegations against him in Society’s deposits withdrawal case in 2004, Cyberabad police commissioner V C Sajjanar said it as a “conspiracy” by the present TDP government in AP to sully his image. He said that it was an old issue and the AP government was trying to target him by digging it out.
“As we are investigating the IT Grids India Private Limited data theft case impartially, they were shocked and are resorting to these tactics aimed at damaging my image,” he said. Sajjanar said in the Police Mutually Aided Co-Operative Society, his role as promoter was nominal as Kadapa SP, and the whole work was the responsibility of the housing society but not his. He clarified that these sort of allegations will not show any impact on his working style.
