Volkswagen Ameo to compete Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Honda Amaze
Volkswagen Ameo, in the sub 4 meter segment marks the German brand’s entry into a highly competitive segment in the Indian auto industry. The new Ameo is seen powered by a 1.2 liter MPI petrol engine and 1.5 liter TDI diesel engine also seen powering the Volkswagen Polo. Both engines get 5 speed MT as standard, but the diesel mill will also get the option of a 7 speed DSG unit.

Volkswagen Ameo, in the sub 4 meter segment marks the German brand’s entry into a highly competitive segment in the Indian auto industry. The new Ameo is seen powered by a 1.2 liter MPI petrol engine and 1.5 liter TDI diesel engine also seen powering the Volkswagen Polo. Volkswagen Ameo is seen specially designed for Indian audience. It will be produced at the company’s Chakan plant and is a part of 4 new launches the company has planned over the next 15 months.
Interiors of the Volkswagen Ameo sport various elements inspired from the Polo and Vento. It comes in with sporty bucket seats in the front and bench seats at the rear all done up in quality material. Leather wrapped multi function steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink and iPod connectivity, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and climatic automatic AC are all a part of its interior features. Safety feature include ABS, dual airbags, rear view camera with parking sensor, lane change indicator and electronic anti theft immobilizer.
On the outside, Volkswagen Ameo features sporty accents in the form of new headlamps, new front bumper and horizontal headlamps. It also receives a wide airdam and a host of chrome accents adding to its sporty appeal. No pricing details have been announced as on date, but VW India has promised that the car will be priced competitively.
Once launched, Volkswagen Ameo will rival Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest and Honda Amaze.
