Delhi: New generation Toyota Prius is expected to be launched in India later this year.

2016 Toyota Prius is the fourth generation model which comes with better styling, improved handling and increased fuel efficiency. Now unveiled at the Toyota Pavilion at 2016 Auto Expo, it is set for launch in India later this year. New Prius will be imported into the country through the CBU route and is expected to be priced between INR 38-40 lakhs.

Toyota Prius has been one of the company’s most successful hybrids in the market and comes in powered by a 1.8 liter petrol engine slated to offer 40 percent more fuel efficiency as compared to that seen on its earlier counterpart. Sporting a smaller lithium-ion hybrid battery positioned below the rear seats as against in its luggage area results in increased interior space.

The 1.8 liter four cylinder DOHC engine offers 97 bhp power at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm torque at 3,600 rpm while the electric motor sources power from a nickel metal hybrid battery offering an additional 71 bhp power. Reduced weight and improved hybrid engine sees the new Prius capable of 54 mpg in city as against 51 mpg offered on its earlier model. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 9.8 seconds.

2016 Toyota Prius measures 4,540 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,470 mm in height. It sits on a 2,700 mm wheelbase while 60 percent rigidity is seen due to laser screw welding, a cylindrical frame and efficient use of adhesives. 2016 Toyota Prius is being offered in 6 trims that include Two, Two Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four and Four Touring, each of which will get distinctive interiors and outstanding safety features.
