Hero launched its first homegrown scooters, the Duet and Maestro Edge, a few months ago.Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has been enjoying an invincible lead in the automatic scooter segment but there has been a fierce battle between TVS and Hero Motocorp for the second place. The former has been holding on to the second place for quite some time now but latter regained the spot for this fiscal.

Thanks to the introduction of the new Duet and Maestro Edge scooters, Hero Motocorp’s scooter business witnessed an impressive growth in the last three months (ending February 2016). During this period, Hero sold 257,322 units of scooters as against TVS’ tally of 187,151 units. Over the course of first 11 months of this fiscal (April 2015 to February 2016), Hero managed to sell 731,967 units while TVS clocked 707,884 units.

The unisex Hero Duet is pitted against the market leading Honda Activa.
Meanwhile, Honda registered sales of 2,544,872 units in the first 11 months of the fiscal, thereby taking home a hefty 56% market share in the automatic scooter segment. Hero Motocorp and TVS Motors have a market share of 16% and 15.5% respectively. Yamaha finishes in a distance fourth with a market share of 6.3% while Suzuki claims 4.5% of the India scooter market.
