New Delhi: The Toyota Innova Crysta was launched across India today, with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs.13.84 lakh (Mumbai).

The car is available in both petrol and diesel engine versions.

The Innova Crysta has highest ex-showroom price (Mumbai) of up to Rs.20.78 lakh.

It will be available in four grades with manual transmission (Zx, Vx, Gx & G) and in two grades with an automatic transmission (Zx & Gx).

Deliveries will begin from May 13, 2016.

Toyota's famed MPV, which first arrived in India in 2005 as replacement for the Qualis, has received a new generation model after over a decade. Though a handful of competent MPVs/ MUVs have entered the market since the fact, the mighty Toyota Innova has continued to be the segment best-seller.

The Innova Crysta borrows design elements from the Toyota Corolla Altis and Camry with major changes received mostly at the front. The MPV sports a larger nose, a frameless front grille with two chrome slats, projector head-lamps with LED daytime running lamps, all-new fog lamps, and a new bumper. In our Toyota Innova Crysta review, we had mentioned that the MPV does receive a handful of changes on the side and rear profile though the new model largely retains its predecessor's silhouette.

Inside, it gets a 4.2-inch TFT Multi Information Display, 7-inch touchscreen system with DVD player, dedicated AC vents for the second and third row, and 20 bottle holders, etc. For safety, Toyota Innova Crysta gets three airbags (front driver, front passenger, and driver knee) and ABS with EBD as a standard provision across all trims. Interestingly, the top-end variant gets 7 airbags: driver, front passenger, driver knee, front side and curtain shield airbags.

The new Toyota Innova is based on an all-new platform, Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), that, according to the Japanese carmaker, is lighter and yet stiffer as compared to the one that underpinned the exiting model. It is offered with a choice of two diesel engines: the 2.4-litre and the 2.8-litre diesel engines. While the former puts out 147bhp and 343Nm of maximum torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the bigger motor promises 171bhp along with a peak torque of 360Nm and gets a 6-speed automatic transmission.
