According to Economic Times, Volvo India is gearing up to increase its presence in the compact end of the fast growing luxury car segment. All the three derivatives of the new Series 40 (V40, S40 and XC40) are in the pipeline for our market.
The compact luxury crossover which is currently known as Concept 40.1 and the sedan which is called the Concept 40.2 adopt the brand’s new design direction which debuted in the XC90. A closer look shows that the twin concepts have a more youthful appeal compared to the flagship SUV.
Based on the brand new CMA (Common Module Architecture) which is developed in association with Volvo’s parent company Geely, the new 40 Series compact models will be hoping to make a killing in BRIC (Brazil, India, Russia, China) markets. According to ET, the production versions will be ready in 2017 and launch is India will take place some 6-7 months after the commencement of international deliveries.
So we can expect the Volvo S40, XC40 and new gen V40 to be launched in India at regular intervals in 2018. The S40 will be pitted against the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 while the XC40 will lock horns with the likes of Merc GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The V40 will continue to rival the Merc A Class and BMW 1 Series.
