The new Toyota Fortuner made global debut last year. Already launched in Thailand and Indonesia, launch of the new Fortuner will take place in India next year.

Sales of the current Fortuner have been affected since the launch of new Ford Endeavour earlier this year. Toyota Fortuner is no longer the undisputed leader in the segment. By launching the new gen Fortuner, Toyota India would be aiming to reclaim that status once again.

The India-spec Fortuner will be powered by a GD diesel engine lineup that will include a 2.4 liter 158 bhp engine, a 2.8 liter 177 bhp engine. Petrol engine will be in the form of a 2.7 liter generating 164 hp and 250 Nm torque. The engines will be mated to 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmission while 2WD and 4WD drivetrain system will be on offer. The engine and transmission options are same as that of Innova Crysta, which is also based on the same platform as new gen Fortuner’s.

New Fortuner’s exteriors will boast of a new and aggressive front fascia with twin slat front grille, dual projector headlamps and LED running lights. Bumpers are also modified and come in with integrated reflectors and fog lamps. In Indonesia, lower trim levels sit on 17” steel wheels wrapped in all terrain tyres, the top end variant gets 18” alloy wheels and highway tyres. Toyota Fortuner in Indonesia is presented in 6 exterior colour options. It measures 4,795 mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835mm in height. It will sit on a wheelbase measuring 2,745mm while ground clearance will stand at 225mm.

Interiors of the new Toyota Fortuner will sport some distinct similarity to the Innova MPV. Space will be at a premium while the interiors are done up in a two-tone beige and black colour scheme. Key features will include an 8” touchsceen entertainment system, new instrument cluster, TFT screen, 3 spoke multi-function steering wheel and audio controls.

Bluetooth telephony, automatic climate controls and electrically adjustable ORVMs will also be evident. Safety features to be seen on the 2017 Toyota Fortuner will be a total of 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, trailer sway control, reverse camera and parking sensors and hill start assist control.
