Well, it was only a matter of time, and Volkswagen has finally launched the Vento with the Ameo’s 110PS diesel engine. While the torque output is the same at 250Nm, the power output goes up from 105PS to 110PS. The engine is available with both a 5-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, but there’s an interesting little twist here.
With the same engine, the Ameo delivers ARAI rated fuel-economy figures of 21.73kmpl (AT) and 21.66kmpl (MT). The Vento, on the other hand, despite being larger and heavier delivers slightly higher efficiency figures of 22.27kmpl (MT) and 22.15kmpl (AT) respectively. This is probably due to a difference in the Vento’s gear ratios which result in a marginal difference under test conditions.
While the manual gearbox equipped Vento diesel will be available in the base ‘Trendline’, mid-range ‘Comfortline’ and top-spec ‘Highline’ variants, the Vento diesel AT is offered only in the top two variants. The petrol options, though, remain unchanged and you still have the choice of either the 1.6-litre MPI (105PS/153Nm) that’s offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox or the 1.2-litre TSI (105PS/175Nm) that’s available only with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
As before, Volkswagen offers the Vento with dual airbags, ABS and adjustable headrests as standard across the range. The feature list includes rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, a rake/reach adjustable steering and all 4 windows with the one-touch up/down function. Also available is a touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink and the audio playback is through a 4-speaker sound system.
The Vento diesel is currently priced between Rs 9.46-11.35 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
