Ford’s EcoSport has been nothing short of bread and butter for the Indian operations of the American carmaker. But since the launch of its bitterest rival – the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza – in 2016, the EcoSport has seen a steady decline in sales figures, month-on-month.
While the Ford EcoSport was at number three in the top 5 most searched SUVs on our portal, the Vitara Brezza claimed top spot with more than twice number of clicks. To counter the storm, Ford is expected to launch a mid-life facelift of the EcoSport later this year. But before that happens, Ford will add and subtract a few features to and from the current model.
As per several Ford dealers, there will be three new additions to the EcoSport’s recipe – an 8-inch infotainment system, new 17-inch alloy wheels and blacked-out roof. The new infotainment system will not only have built-in satellite navigation, Bluetooth, DVD player and double up to serve as a monitor to the reverse-parking camera, but will also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for pairing smartphones. This will replace Ford’s multiple information display (MID) screen and hence will sit on top of the dashboard. Dealers confirmed that only the top-spec Titanium+ variants (diesel or petrol) will get these additions and that the prices for these variants are expected to go up by Rs 15,000-20,000.
Apart from the fully-loaded variants, the middle and lower trims of the EcoSport will also see a price hike. Strangely, the hike in prices is accompanied by a reduction in equipment. Mentioned below are the features (along with the variant that will get affected), which will be omitted henceforth:
- Driver height adjust (Trend)
- Driver’s armrest (Titanium, Titanium+)
- Lumbar support (Titanium, Titanium+)
- Daytime running lights (Titanium+)
- Reclining and split folding rear seat (Trend, Trend+)
- Rear windscreen washer and defogger (Trend)
- Cooled glovebox (Titanium, Titanium+)
- Rear parcel tray (Trend)
Ford will soon announce the updated EcoSport with a revised price list.
