Hyderabad: Consul General Michael Mullins, US Consulate Office Hyderabad, on Friday said he would visit various districts in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for interacting with industrialists for promotion of trade and investments between the USA and the two Telugu states.

“The US Consulate is visiting various districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to interact with the industrialists to understand the trade and investment opportunities for promotion of trade between US and India, more particularly with the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” the Consul General told a delegation of Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) which called on him here. On the occasion, he lauded the initiatives taken by the Telangana government on brand building and Andhra Pradesh government on smart city projects, according to a release issued by the industry body.

The consul general invited the industry body to SelectUSA Investment Summit happening on March 23-24 in Washington, which brings together investors from all over the world.

He said the governments of both the countries and the private sector need to collaborate on trade and commercial issues of mutual interest with a view to facilitate trade and investment opportunities across various sectors.

“Today, the India-US bilateral cooperation is broad-based and multi-sectoral, covering trade and investment, defence and security, education, science and technology, cyber security, high-technology, civil nuclear energy, space technology and applications, clean energy, environment, agriculture and health,” he said.

Mullins also explained to the delegation that presently the US trade with India is $100 billion and there is a potential that it can grow $500 billion by 2020. Several Indian students are studying in US universities and have the potential to make significant contributions when they return to India, he added.

The delegation led by FTAPCCI president Shiv Kumar Rungta briefed the consul general about its activities. Rungta said FTAPCCI will be opening its branches in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Rayalaseema shortly. He also invited Mullins to inaugurate FTAPCCI’s new branch at Visakhapatnam.

Anil Reddy Vennam, Senior Vice President, FTAPCCI, conveyed to the US diplomat that the FTAPCCI was willing to accompany the US Consulate and its team for participating in the interactive meetings planned with industrialists in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, since the industry body has its presence in the two states.
