Animated Hindi version of Ray’s film to open film fest
Animated Hindi Version of Ray’s Film to Open Film Fest, Children's Film Society India. The film will be the main attraction at the inaugural event at Lalitha Kala Thoranam on Thursday which will also see Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and lyricist-writer-director-poet Gulzar make a special appearance.
‘Gopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya’ to be the inaugural film at the 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India which will have Ranbir Kapoor and director Gulzar making a special appearance.
'Gopi Gawaiya Bagha Bajaiya’, a 78-minute animation film directed by Shilpa Ranade, has been selected for the inaugural screening by the Children's Film Society India (CFSI) at the 18th International Children’s Film Festival of India beginning in Hyderabad today.
The movie is about Gopi and Bagha, a pair of musicians gifted with magical powers by the King of Ghosts. It is the Hindi version of Satyajit Ray's popular Bengali film 'Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen'. The 1969 film directed by Ray is based on a story by his grandfather Upendra Kishore Ray. It is said that it was the director’s son Sandip who had encouraged him to make the movie, which became very popular among children.
The film will be the main attraction at the inaugural event at Lalitha Kala Thoranam on Thursday which will also see Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and lyricist-writer-director-poet Gulzar make a special appearance.
The mega event of the Children’s Film Society and the Government of Andhra Pradesh will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari will preside over it.
Actor Salman Khan has lent support via an audio-visual presentation. ‘Taare Zameen Par’ fame actor Darsheel Safary and child comedian Saloni Daini will host the festival.
Actress Swara Bhaskar, on the other hand, is one of the selection committee members. Filmmaker Amole Gupte (chairman CFSI), who specialises in children's films, will also be present.
The festival is gearing up to receive 5,000 child delegates and another 100-odd national and international delegates for a week long bonanza of films, cultural events, and an array of festivities of all regional dishes, traditions and arts on display every day. A section has also been dedicated to 100 years of Indian cinema.
Open forums will be held to discuss ‘Rights of Child Actors’, ‘Inclusive Cinema – representing the Differently abled’, ‘Challenges and Potential of Indian Animation’ and ‘Invisibility of Girls in children’s content’. Eminent jury will be judging the films.
‘3-D movies will be screened for the first time during the week-long festival, said AP Information and Cinematography minister DK Aruna.
