Ajay, Sonakshi bag ‘worst’ awards

The ‘Golden Kela’ awards celebrate mediocrity and mock at all the big stars who have put up their worst performances in the year

Ajay Devgn(for Himmatwala) and Sonakshi Sinha (for ‘R...Rajkumar’) received Golden Kelas, for the second consecutive year, in the worst actor category at the 6th Golden Kela Awards Show, where the worst of Indian cinema in 2013 was celebrated with gusto.

With many ‘Best’ of the Bollywood Award ceremonies having already been held for the best of Hindi Cinema, the 6th Golden Kela Awards honoured the worst in Bollywood at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on March 29, 2014.

Ajay, Sonakshi bag ‘worst’ awards

Anant Singh, Creative Head, Golden Kela Awards, said, "In Bollywood today, the box office figures have no correlation to the quality of the film. Our sincerest hope is that 10 years down the line, the figures will be forgotten, while the Kelas they got are remembered".

The honour for the Worst Actor in supporting role went to Aditya Roy Kapoor for ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ – a wake-up call that acting needs a lot more than getting high! The Kela for the Worst Director went to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ‘Goliyon Ki Raas Leela...Ram Leela’.

Other big winners of the evening were Worst Film: ‘Himmatwala’ – for obvious reasons including over-the-top acting, irritating melodrama, lame jokes, mindless entertainment, and just about everything else! The Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke Award went to Aamir Khan for ‘Dhoom 3’, for the high level of stupidity in stunts and action, playing a ridiculously unnecessary double role and finally for succumbing to the dark side of Bollywood.

"Aamir Khan once said that he loves the Kela Awards, because all other awards are rigged. Wonder what he has to say about us now," commented Anant Singh, Creative Head, Golden Kela Awards.

Voters chose Party All Night from Boss as Most Irritating Song as it was too much to take Yo Yo Honey Singh ‘singing’ for Akshay and Sonakshi. Shahid Kapoor won the Why Are You Still Trying Award for ‘R...Rajkumar’, to make him understand that doing lame comedies and using senseless dialogues like "Silent ho ja, nahi to main violent ho jaaonga", won’t make him a superstar.

Like every year, there were some special awards given out by Golden Kela team this time as well. The Aakhir Kyun Award went to Priyanka Chopra for the music video Exotic, The Dara Singh Award for the Worst Accent was given to Deepika Padukone for ‘Chennai Express’, the Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya Award went to Sunny Deol and Uday Chopra got the Aap Yahaan Aaye Kisliye Award.

However, there were some films that managed to please the Golden Kela team this year as well. The Anti Kela awards went to four outstanding films, ‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns’ – for being the only real sequel made last year; ‘Go Goa Gone’ – for being India's first ever Zombie Comedy and Stoner Film in one cool package; ‘The Lunchbox’ – for showing the world that Indian films are not all song and dance and ‘Shahid’ – for being the best biopic made by Bollywood in a long time.
