The curious case of Gabbar Singh 2. Perhaps in the history of Telugu cinema, no film has consumed as much time as ‘Gabbar Singh 2’ did to go on to sets.
As his mega brother Chiranjeevi is set to don the greasepaint once again, there’s no clarity surrounding Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Gabbar Singh 2’, especially after a couple of announcements indicating its launch. A look at how things panned out.
Perhaps in the history of Telugu cinema, no film has consumed as much time as ‘Gabbar Singh 2’ did to go on to sets. To begin with, had everything gone according to producer Sharrath Marar’s plans, it would have been nearly 17 months since the film released (Yes, Marar had told us that the film will go on floors in June 2013 and will have a January ’14 release).
But that didn’t ensue as the second installment of the one-of-a-kind cop story hit roadblocks time and again. If Pawan’s sudden jump into politics caused the film’s delay for a major part of the first half of 2014, it was his commitment to ‘Gopala Gopala’ and director Sampath Nandi’s subsequent exit (as he failed to come up with a script that interested Pawan) in the second half that pushed the film to a further date.
It’s been more than six months since writer-turned-director director KS Ravindra aka Bobby has been handed over the reins but nothing fruitful – regarding when it will move on to floors – has emerged yet, much to the chagrin of the actor’s fans.
On the other hand, Bobby, for the past one month, has dropped enough hints claiming that the film, touted to be a romantic comical entertainer, will begin in early May but wait, it isn’t right! When we contacted Marar to know whether it is the script yet again or any other factor that is causing the delay, he chose not to respond.
Amidst whispers that Bobby is also keen to exit the project after waiting too long for it to start – which the film’s PR machinery denied outright – it remains to be seen whether an announcement is made anytime soon. After all it’s been three years since ‘Gabbar Singh’ released and more than 18 months since the news of an impending second installment have been doing the rounds.
