In this fifth instalment of ‘Mission: Impossible’, we have Impossible Mission Force (IMF) agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) at it again – shades of James Bond who lives to fight another day.

It all begins after Hunt intercepts nerve gas which is being sold to terrorists and he is convinced that he can prove the existence of the Syndicate, an international criminal consortium.

Reporting to IMF sub-station to receive orders Hunt is captured by Syndicate men but escapes the torture chamber led by Janik “Bone Doctor” Vinter (Jens Hulton) and Syndicate operative Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson).

Meanwhile, CIA director Alan Henly (Alec Baldwin) and IMF agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) decide to merge the IMF with the CIA and they guarantee the capture of Hunt within a day.

But Hunt follows a blind man with glasses Solomon Lane (Sean Hurro) and along with former colleague Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) they have a prolonged battle against the Syndicate. What follows is a number of twists and turns which tend to confuse the audience.

But despite its 131-minute duration, director Christopher McQuarrie manages to keep the viewer absorbed, more with the well managed action sequences than any quality acting prowess. Actually the USP of the film is the dazzling action sequences.

Tom Cruise does well to maintain interest in the lead role though he is showing signs of wear and tear and Jeremy Renner provides the nominal support, Rebecca Ferguson the female relief.

Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames provide the lesser cameos. Nonetheless, ‘Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation’ is surely worth watching as it lives up to the parent film’s standards. Imagine almost 20 years of this title.
