After making her Bollywood debut with ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’, Nidhi Subbaiah is elated with the response she’s getting for her portrayal of Dolly Pandey in her latest release ‘Direct Ishq’, directed by Rajiv S Ruia. The Kannada actress says she enjoyed the transformation from being a glam doll to an action girl.
“I’m very pleased with the feedback I’m getting for my performance as an aspiring singer from Uttar Pradesh. My rugged look and no-nonsense attitude in the character came as a whiff of fresh air, which is way away from the run-of-the-mill glamour roles I’ve played earlier.
As would a rowdy, I rode a Bullet for my role and carried guns. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting for it. Moreover, why should only men enjoy the fun of beating the baddies? Even we (women) want to enjoy it. It’s a completely new role and I have gone for an image makeover,” she states.
The former model says working with Akshay Kumar in ‘OMG! Oh My God’, was a learning experience. “Working with him is a good experience. He’s a chilled out guy and I had a great time on the sets. Even though it was a cameo, I learnt a lot from him about when to pause during a dialogue and comic timing,” she says.
Up next, the sassy actress will be seen as a mature girl in ‘Love Shagun’, a romantic drama, directed by Saandesh Nayak. “I play Tia, a modern and independent girl who follows her own mind. The film revolves around the subject of respecting one another in a relationship,” she explains.
Was she ever in a relationship? “I was in love. It’s a beautiful feeling. I love ‘being in love’ and love to be in a relationship because there’s a sense of belonging and something to look forward to.
Initially, it was a head rush since I was suddenly trying to get to know more about the new guy, his likes and dislikes,” she describes. So how did she deal with the break-up? “I think everyone goes through it. You have to deal it by getting over it. Thankfully, I have moved on (smiles),” says Nidhi.
