Actress Rakul Preet Singh participated in a programme organised by the Hyderabad Traffic Police at Goshamahal Traffic Training Institute on Tuesday. Owing to not break traffic rules, the actress asked commuters to follow the same for safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Speaking to media persons, Rakul said, “I appeal to the people to follow traffic rules and not violate them. One mistake of yours while driving may result in loss to someone else.” “Since I have come here, I have seen many people violating lane rules and overtake from left. It creates more traffic hindrances and increases travelling time for others,” Rakul said.
Talking about the ill-effects of drunken driving, the former Femina Miss India said, “Your senses slow down when you are drunk. Opt a cab or take a friend along with you who did not consume alcohol. About 1.5 lakh people in India die every year due to road accidents; let us take a pledge that we do not violate traffic rules and contribute in saving lives of others,” Rakul added.
Speaking at the event, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Jitender said, “We are not against motorists and not interested in penalising violators heavily. It is an effort to bring discipline among citizens and make Hyderabad a global city.”The officer said that the Integrated Traffic Management System, which is scheduled to start this year, will be launched soon.
“We are facing an alarming situation when it comes to sound pollution. It has become difficult to stand in traffic for 15 minutes due to heavy honking by motorists. Very soon, enforcement against honkers will also start,” the additional commissioner added.
