Superstar Krishna has been selected for the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the American Telugu Association (ATA) , which was formed 26 years ago by the Telugu people who settled down in the USA. This was disclosed to the media by present ATA president Karunakar Anisetty and the president-elect Paramesh Bhimireddy.
The award will be presented at the valedictory function on December 23. ATA has been hosting several cultural programmes from the commencement of the programme on November 23. ATA has been striving for the welfare of the Telugu people settled in the USA. Veteran actor Krishna who began his film career with the 1965 movie ‘Tene-Manasulu’, directed by Adurthi Subba Rao shot into limelight after his spy thriller ‘Goodachari-116’ in 1967 tasting tremendous success.
Popularly known as ‘Andhra James Bond’, Krishna established the Padmalaya Studios and produced cowboy genre films with ‘Mosagallaku Mosagadu,’ taking inspiration from English films like ‘Mackanna’s Gold’ and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. He also produced the first cinemascope movie ‘Alluri Sitaramaraju’ in 1974 which became a cult classic and the first 70 mm film ‘Simhasanam’ in 1986.
For his outstanding contribution to the Telugu film industry and his achievements as an actor, Krishna was conferred the ‘Padmabhushan’ award in 2009
by the Government of India.
