Police recover jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Central Crime Station (CCS), Cyberabad police, on Friday, nabbed two notorious chain-snatchers and claimed to have recovered 62.5 tolas of gold jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and a motorbike from their possession. According to the cops, the accused are Shaik Baker Ali alias Sameer Ali, 21, and Shaik Javed Ali, 21, both sunglasses vendors and hailing from Maharashtra.

The two accused were nabbed at Nagole Crossroads on Friday evening while they were trying to dispose of the stolen gold chains at RTC Colony market. The duo used to move around lonely stretches on motorcycle and snatch gold chains from women and disappear.

During interrogation, they confessed to have been involved in around 25 chain-snatchings from women on lonely stretches under Hyderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerate, the cops said. They had also served jail sentences in the past for their involvement in chain-snatching cases.

They were produced before the court for judicial remand.
