Bridegroom demands excess dowry from fat bride

Vijayawada: A police sub inspector has misbehaved with the members of a family who approached the police station, seeking justice. Going into the details… a matrimonial alliance was made between a girl of Machavaram and Vikram Naidu of Palem. They have been engaged for last two months.

The bridegroom was paid a dowry of Rs 2L in advance too. Nevertheless, as the time for their marriage was getting nearer, the bridegroom has been denying marrying the girl. Nowadays, he complains that the bride is very fat so he doesn’t like her. Further, he demanded for additional Rs 5L dowry, if at all he has to marry that girl. Vexed with the attitude of the groom, the family members of the bride approached the Machavaram police station.

Instead of extending the support, Ramesh, the Sub Inspector of Police at Machavaram police station, abused the family members with filthy words. The fuming family members have sit-in for a dharna in front of the police station. They demanded punishing the sub inspector, apart from doing justice to them.

The assistant commissioner of police of Vijayawada gathered information regarding this very issue and promised the victim’s family members that justice will be done to them. With the intervention of ACP, the family members have called off their dharna.
