Visakhapatnam: Lovelorn self immolates; rescued by locals

Hyderabad: A lovelorn attempted suicide in Visakhapatnam, following the denial of his love by the girl with whom he was in love. With the involvement of the locals who resisted his attempt for suicide, the youth is now getting treatment at a hospital in Visakhapatnam. According to sources, Bharath, a native of Warangal has been studying in second year of Polytechnic Diploma course at the Kancherapalem government polytechnic college.

He was in love with a girl from Simhagiri colony who has been his class mate too, from the beginning of their first year course. She informed the matter to her parents as she was not interested in him. The principal of the college warned him, bowing to the complaint made by the parents of the girl. Even then, there was no change in the attitude of Bharath. Following this, the girl was not sent to the college for last four months.

He found out the address of the girl and went to their home with a bottle full of petrol, early on Wednesday. He self immolated with the petrol at around 11 a.m., on Wednesday. He could not put up with the pain and was running all the way. The girl’s mother put out the fire with the help of water. At the time of this incident, the girl was not present in their home. The locals informed 108 services that rushed the location in time and took the victim to KGH. He was burnt by 30%, approximately, according to KGH sources. A case has been booked and the police have been investigating the matter.
