Hyderabad: Gun culture is alarmingly on the rise even as police claim that steps were being taken to check crime in city. In a spine chilling incident, a father-son duo was robbed of Rs 3.5 lakh at gunpoint in Santoshnagar area on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, Balaraju, 54, a railway employee and his son, Rajesh, 28, were returning home after withdrawing Rs 3.5 lakh from State Bank of India (SBI), Midani branch, when they were intercepted in Rukmani Colony near Rakshapur crossroads. Two armed motorcycle-borne men stopped them and asked them to part with the bag containing the cash.

The accused threatened the duo with dire consequences if they do not part with the money bag. After snatching the bag, they fled from the scene on a motorcycle.

Locals alerted the police who in turn swung into action and took stock of the situation. Police found a bullet on the road. “The two armed miscreants wearing helmets pointed the gun towards my father and threatened him. They also attacked me with heavy blows on my face and took away the money bag and escaped on a TVS Apache bike,” said Rajesh.
