Hyderabad: A 30-year-old private employee was killed and three others severely injured on Thursday when a water tanker rammed into them in Bharath Nagar area under SR Nagar police station limits. According to SR Nagar police, the incident occurred when a speeding water tanker (AP 29 T 5631) went out of control and ran into four pedestrians, killing one of them on the spot and injuring three others severely. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and were reported to be critical.

“It all happened in a flash of a second. When the speeding vehicle which was heading towards Bharath Nagar from SR Nagar reached near SR Nagar Crossroads, it lost control and mowed down the victims walking on the footpath and finally came to a halt after hitting a road kerb. We are investigating the matter and seized the vehicle,” said police.

While the driver of the water tanker claimed the accident occurred because of the failure of brakes and that he had to apply the hand brake to stop the vehicle, police said they were yet to get the vehicle inspected. A case has been registered under Section 304-A (Causing death by rash or negligent act) of the IPC against the driver and took him into custody.
