Hyderabad: The Lake Police saved a woman who tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Hussain Sagar Lake on Monday. Around 11 am, 61-year-old Gudala Sunitha was seen walking into the waters near NTR Gardens, the cops said.

A constable, Mahesh, and home guard, Srinivas, attached to Lake Police spotted the woman and rushed to her rescue. They caught hold of the woman and dragged her to safety. She was later counselled and sent back to her family at Sikh Village.

“She appears to be mentally depressed and said her husband tortures her physically over petty issues.
Her son and her elder daughter took divorce 10 years back and she was living with them. Her son is an engineer and her daughter a doctor. Though they hail from a respectable family, the disturbed life at home caused mental agony. Due to which, she tried to end her life,” Lake Police inspector Sreedevi said.
